At SMG, our fifth-grade students have the exciting opportunity to attend Walden West Science Camp. It is a tradition cherished by generations of Californians, including many SMG alumni who fondly remember their time at Walden West. Located in the beautiful Saratoga hills, Walden West offers students five days and four nights of adventure, staying in cabins with their classmates and cabin leaders. They explore the redwood forest, discover wildlife, participate in team-building skits, and even get to participate in a night hike.
For over 70 years, Walden West has provided hands-on learning in nature, teaching students about ecosystems, environmental conservation, and the magic of the natural world. With over 5,000 students attending annually, the program follows Next Generation Science Standards and offers experiences that create lifelong memories, foster a strong sense of community, and inspire a love for the environment.
