Hello SMG Families,
I hope that you and your families are safe and healthy. Our teachers are currently in the process of planning remote learning, and what it will look like going forward if we do not return to school in April (no official word on that yet). Our teachers attended online trainings last week on tools they can use for remote instruction such as Zoom, Screencastify, Flipgrid, and many more. This week, our teachers are beginning to implement these remote learning tools, such as Zoom classes, so that they are prepared for doing this regularly to support learning for as long as necessary. We plan to share out more information on this by early next week at the latest.
SMG teachers will continue the hard work they have begun to quickly shift to virtually meeting the needs of students while maintaining the vital school to home connection. As educators, we understand the value of students being able to see and interact with their peers and teachers as much as possible to maintain a sense of normalcy and interconnectedness.
The next step will be to provide devices to families that need them (following social distancing protocols) and access to the internet as best as we can by purchasing hotspots and helping families access free internet services. Our staff is currently working to identify families who need these supports. We will communicate a distribution plan directly to these families. Limiting exposure to the virus is a priority for the safety of our families and staff.
Finally, I plan to send out updates on a weekly basis, but please keep in mind that information from the State and from government health departments is changing rapidly, sometimes on a day-to-day basis. I also encourage you to frequently check MHUSD’s COVID19 information page on the district website.

Hola familias de SMG,
Espero que usted y sus familias estén seguros y saludables. Nuestros maestros están actualmente en el proceso de planificar el aprendizaje remoto, y planeando a futuro por si no volvemos a la escuela en abril (todavía no hay noticias oficiales). Nuestros maestros asistieron a entrenamientos en línea la semana pasada sobre herramientas que pueden usar para la instrucción remota como Zoom, Screencastify, Flipgrid y muchos más. Esta semana, nuestros maestros están comenzando a implementar estas herramientas de aprendizaje remoto, como las clases de Zoom, para que estén preparados para hacer esto regularmente y apoyar el aprendizaje durante el tiempo que sea necesario. Planeamos compartir más información sobre esto a principios de la próxima semana a más tardar.
Los maestros de SMG continuarán el duro trabajo que han comenzado a cambiar rápidamente para satisfacer virtualmente las necesidades de los estudiantes mientras mantienen la conexión vital entre la escuela y el hogar. Como educadores, entendemos el valor de que los estudiantes puedan ver e interactuar con sus compañeros y maestros tanto como sea posible para mantener un sentido de normalidad e interconexión.
El siguiente paso será proporcionar dispositivos a las familias que los necesitan (siguiendo los protocolos de distanciamiento social) y acceder a Internet lo mejor que podamos mediante la compra de hotspots (para acceder a internet) y ayudar a las familias a acceder a servicios gratuitos de Internet. Nuestro personal está trabajando actualmente para identificar familias que necesitan estos apoyos. Comunicaremos un plan de distribución directamente a estas familias. La limitación y la exposición al virus es una prioridad para la seguridad de nuestras familias y el personal.
Finalmente, planeó enviar actualizaciones semanalmente, pero tenga en cuenta que la información del estado y de los departamentos de salud del gobierno está cambiando rápidamente, a veces diariamente. También lo animo a que consulte con frecuencia la página de información COVID19 de MHUSD en el sitio web del distrito.
